In less than 7 months after the IRS released the 2018 version of EPCRS, they’ve issued a new version, with important changes practitioners have requested. Most important, participants can now self-correct their loan defaults and not face a 1099-R! You can now self-correct certain plan document failures, but you have to be quick. And the IRS will allow retroactive amendments to handle benefits, rights, and features, such as in-service distributions, that were operationally available but not reflected in the plan document.
