The SECURE Act: Key Issues for Benefits Lawyers and Their Clients

American Law Institute Continuing Legal Education Group [ALI CLE]

There are stories in the business section of every major newspaper and on business websites all the time: Americans do not, on the whole, save enough for retirement. While it’s true that this often is a matter of unwise planning on the individual level, there has long been another reason for it: The difficulty and complexity of setting up and running retirement plans for employers. The SECURE Act, signed into law December 20, 2019 addresses some of those problems by creating incentives for employers to become plan sponsors. The Act also makes multiple-employer plans (MEPs) more attractive by allowing for “open” MEPS. Additionally, the Act also makes significant changes to the compliance landscape.

Join two noted experts in the employee benefits area for a one-hour discussion of how the SECURE Act affects the administration of existing plans, how current plans can be modified or enhanced pursuant to the Act, and steps that your client can take to offer the best plan for its employees.

Topics To Be Covered Include:

  • The background and basics of the SECURE Act
  • Plan administration
  • Pension issues
  • Multiemployer plans
