Secure 2.0 for 401(k) and 403(b) Plans: What Employers (and Their Advisors) Need to Know Now

Boutwell Fay LLP

Jan. 19, 2022
Recorded Online
Webinar

On December 29, 2022, President Biden signed into law the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023, which includes the SECURE 2.0 Act of 2022. SECURE 2.0 contains almost 400 pages of amendments to the Internal Revenue Code and ERISA that will affect the design and operation of virtually every type of retirement plan. In this webinar, we will discuss some of the significant changes that will affect 401(k) and 403(b) plans, with a particular focus on those changes that go into effect in 2023 and 2024.

Among other important provisions in the new law, we cover:

  1. The delay in the beginning date for required minimum distributions
  2. Eligibility for long-term, part time workers
  3. Matching contributions permitted on the repayment of student loans
  4. The authorization of 403(b) MEPs and PEPs
  5. The use of collective investment trusts in 403(b) plans
  6. The requirement for an automatic enrollment provision in new 401(k) and 403(b) plans
