LAWEXPRESS.COM -- Providing Legal Solutions at the Speed of Life

Issued by: ARAG Group

Date: Sept. 29, 2000

—Employee benefit utilizes visionary leadership, proven attorney network—
—ARAG Group’s 25+ years legal services experience provides backbone of Web site—
—“This is not an Internet start-up venture,” says company president—

DES MOINES, Iowa – Sept. 29, 2000 – Some 38 million full-time U.S. workers have access to the Internet at work, and nearly two-thirds of them go online at least once a day, according to the Pew Internet & American Life Project. That might be part of the reason why more companies are seeking online, self-service human resource functions. In fact, almost 90 percent of human resources executives stated their top objective in self-service and portal initiatives is to improve service to employees, reports The Hunter Group in its 2000 Human Resources Self Service Survey.
In an effort to help support the demand of online employee benefits, and to satisfy the growing need for legal services, ARAG Group, the nation’s leading professional advisory plan administrator, announces the establishment of its online legal services product – LawExpress.com (www.lawexpress.com).
LawExpress provides tools that educate individuals about their legal needs. In addition to general legal information and an online document assembly tool, LawExpress customers can talk to an attorney for legal advice and select from a large network of qualified attorneys for representation.

American’s Legal Needs Growing
Almost 40 million moderate-income households – 52 percent – have at least one legal need, according to a study conducted by Temple University for the American Bar Association in the early 1990s. The primary legal needs included personal finance and estate planning, housing, domestic relations, personal injury and employment issues.
“More and more individuals are seeking quality legal advice for a variety of needs, and an increased number of organizations are seeking employee benefit solutions to help employees’ simplify their lives,” said Jim Brennan, president of ARAG Group. “LawExpress is one tool that helps satisfy both the needs of the employer and the employee.”

More Companies Turning to Legal Benefits
Legal plans are becoming a dependable alternative to standard legal representation. Companies are beginning to realize the demand, as nearly 20 percent of HR executives surveyed by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) said their organizations currently offer legal assistance or services to its employees.
“In today’s competitive employee environment, businesses are not only doing what they can to recruit and maintain quality employees, they also are providing tools to increase the employees’ satisfaction and productivity on the job,” Brennan said. “The professional advisory plans that ARAG Group offers allow employees access to reliable legal and financial services. And LawExpress is an online, and on-demand, extension of that service.”

Not a “Dot.com” Start-Up
“LawExpress is different than the typical legal Web site,” Brennan added. “It is a truly one-of-a-kind site that has spawned from our two decades of experience providing quality legal and financial advisory plans for more than 200 corporations. This is the next level in professional legal advisory plan administration.”
Another advantage of LawExpress, Brennan said, is the high-quality network of established attorneys. More than 7,500 attorneys comprise the LawExpress attorney network, and the attorneys average more than 20 years experience in the practice of law.

An Industry Leader
Brennan said that ARAG Group is on the cutting edge in product development. “We were the first professional advisory administrator to offer a number of services, including telephone legal services, dispute coverage and integrated financial planning,” Brennan said. “Now we are continuing that pace-setting innovation with the first legal plan online – LawExpress.”
