RELEASE:     Immediate

BETH ESSEY JOINS HENDERSON BROTHERS EMPLOYEE BENEFITS DIVISION

PITTSBURGH – JUNE 2, 2010 – Beth A. Essey, a senior level health and employee benefits consultant with nearly 20 years experience, has joined Henderson Brothers Inc. Essey will produce and manage strategic accounts while helping refine service processes for the benefits division. Henderson Brothers is one of Western Pennsylvania’s largest providers of insurance and risk management, employee benefits, retirement plan services and all lines of commercial, personal property and casualty insurance.

Essey comes to Henderson from Mercer, where she spent nearly two decades with the organization, providing benefits consulting to large and middle-market companies, developing and managing emerging benefits brokerage operations and engaging in new business development. From 2005 until last month, she was a principal, senior consultant and health and benefits business leader for the local office of Mercer, a firm that provides human resources and related financial advice, products and services, and is a wholly owned subsidiary
of Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. (MMC).

From 1998 to 2005, she served as senior vice president, senior consultant and employee benefits service practice leader at Marsh, having initially joined the firm in 1992 when it was Johnson & Higgins (prior to the 1997 merger with MMC) and holding positions of vice president and senior consultant. Prior to that, she held account management positions with a national and local benefits brokerage firm.

Essey’s new position allows her to utilize her experience in consulting and practice management to grow and strengthen Henderson Brothers benefits advisory services across the employer spectrum to ensure the firm continues providing employers in Western Pennsylvania with creative solutions to their employee benefits challenges. “Henderson Brothers was always a formidable competitor in my previous positions. I was also attracted to the firm because of the positive and enthusiastic attitude of leadership and the commitment of the entire organization to its clients, employees and the community,” she noted.

With federal healthcare reform and a tremendously dynamic healthcare and employee benefits landscape as a backdrop, Henderson Brothers President Tom Grealish says it’s an opportune time to bring Essey onboard. “Beth’s experience meshes well with where we are and where we’re headed as a company. She really understands the needs of both large and mid-sized clients, as well as the challenges they face in this evolving healthcare arena. With her entrepreneurial approach and success in developing novel solutions to benefits management, she’ll be a great asset to our clients and a great fit with our corporate culture.”

Essey is a member of the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans; the International Society of Certified Employee Benefit Specialists; Society for Human Resource Management; WorldatWork and the Pittsburgh Association of Group Executives.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from North Carolina’s Appalachian State University, with a major in marketing and a minor in finance, insurance and real estate. A graduate of Springdale High School, she was raised in Cheswick, and now resides in Fox Chapel with her husband Shawn and three daughters.
