Press release:

A fatter "skinny" plan: HealthFirst unveils new level of popular MEC health plan

Issued by: HealthFirst TPA

Date: Aug. 3, 2016

TYLER, Texas, Aug. 3, 2016 -- HealthFirst TPA, a third-party administrator for self-funded group health plans, has expanded its popular preventive health plan.

Simple Select, a Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC) plan that meets preventive requirements of the Affordable Care Act, now offers three levels for employers who wish to offer affordable, basic health care coverage while avoiding penalties.

Download the Simple Select brochure at www.hfbenefits.com/simple-select/ to learn about these plans:

Plan 1: Basic plan covers preventive care at 100 percent, including all services required by the ACA, such as certain immunizations and screenings.
Plan 2: All preventive care covered by Plan 1 plus additional services, including up to four physician visits annually, some labs, a generic drug plan and unlimited, 24/7 telemedicine service.
NEW Plan 3: All the benefits of Plans 1 and 2, plus limited coverage for such services as emergency room care and out-patient surgery.

Simple Select is a so-called "skinny plan" that satisfies the individual mandate for employees, so they won't face fines. These plans also minimize potential ACA-related penalties for employers. And all at a cost that's lower than other health benefits options as low as about $60 per employee, per month.

"Since healthcare reform, many employers have struggled with how to budget for an expensive health plan, especially if they have a lot of workers who didn't previously qualify for benefits or they're in an industry that typically didn't offer universal benefits," says Kirk Hopkins, HealthFirst's chief operating officer. "Simple Select is a smart, budget-friendly way to provide benefits that workers really use."

This streamlined MEC plan is available nationwide, can be set up in as little as 15 days, and can be offered in conjunction with a traditional self-funded health plan. Based in Texas, HealthFirst serves plan participants in 49 states.
