Press release:

America Retirement Association Announces Subject Matter Experts for New Fiduciary Adviser Standard Program

Issued by: American Retirement Association

Date: Aug. 23, 2016

ARLINGTON, VA (Aug. 23 2016) -- Building on the momentum of its recently announced IRA Fiduciary Adviser education program, the American Retirement Association (ARA) has engaged Don Trone, CEO of 3ethos, And Former Principal Founder and CEO, fi360, and Peter Swisher, Senior Vice President, National Sales at Pentegra Retirement Services, and author of “401(k) Fiduciary Governance: An Advisor’s Guide” as subject matter experts.

Don Trone, frequently referred to as the “Father of Fiduciary” was the principal founder of fi360, the AIF and AIFA designations, and founder of the Foundation for Fiduciary Studies. He has served on the ERISA Advisory Council; has testified before the U.S. Senate Finance Committee; has trained the U.S. SEC staff on how to investigate pay-to-play schemes; has trained the Directors of the Federal Retirement Thrift; and has written 12 books on the subject of fiduciary responsibility. The first book he co-authored, “Procedural Prudence”, was selected by the staff of the U.S. Library of Congress for the reading room of the law library.

Pete Swisher is well-known nationally as one of the industry’s top retirement plan experts, and thought leader in the retirement services community. The author of more than 20 articles and white papers, including “Game Changer, Revisited” regarding the Labor Department’s fiduciary regulation, his work has appeared in Financial Planning Magazine, the Journal of Financial Planning, The ASPPA Journal, Employee Benefits News, ABA Trust & Investments and numerous periodicals and trade papers.

“We have been gratified by the tremendous outpouring of interest in this new program,” notes Chris DeGrassi, Executive Director of the National Tax-Deferred Savings Association (NTSA), and IRA Fiduciary Adviser education program director. “We have worked for years with Don and Pete on a variety of projects, and couldn’t have a more capable and respected team of subject matter experts for this important program.  Advisers need credible, practical, instruction in how to comply with the fiduciary regulation, and we’re honored to be able to bring this kind of program to market at this critical time.”

Unveiled last month, the IRA Fiduciary Adviser education program is designed to prepare advisers for a continuously shifting regulatory environment.  Delivered through Morningstar Advisor Workstation, the program provides sophisticated tracking and reporting mechanisms to support broker-dealer and registered investment adviser compliance requirements.   Balanced with a practical, utilitarian application of that knowledge, the program brings together a half-century of expertise educating and working with retirement plan professionals and regulatory agencies with a platform that encompasses the latest thinking in professional education delivery.
