Issued by: PSCA [Plan Sponsor Council of America]

Independent Consultant and Actuary Honored for Contributions to Defined Contribution Industry

Chicago (April 25, 2017) – Anna Rappaport will receive the Plan Sponsor Council of America’s prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 70th Annual National Conference to be held May 2-3, 2017 at the Drake Hotel in Chicago.

Said her nominator Tim Kohn, Vice President and Head of Defined Contribution Service of Dimensional Fund Advisors, “Anna’s commitment to and positive impact on retirement planning has not wavered in her 50 distinguished years of service. From her time at Mercer Consulting Group, she has played a leadership role in developing and disseminating ideas for retirement practice indicative of her constant vigilance to the changing industry landscape and needs of plan participants.”

In a letter in support of Rappaport’s nomination, Jean Martone, CFP, Executive Relationship Manager, T. Rowe Price, wrote, “Everyone in the industry knows the name Anna Rappaport.  And everyone knows that she is always ready to fully immerse herself when you ask her to lend her talents to a subject.  And even today when many of her peers are enjoying retirement, she doesn’t give any indication of slowing down.  She is a trailblazer for women and a wonderful role model. “

“Anna is a gift to our industry and to plan sponsors. She has made remarkable contributions through decades of research and thought leadership,” said Tony Verheyen, PSCA’s executive director. “She was a pioneer in areas that included the implications of an aging society and the evolution of phased retirement, and she has tirelessly tackled retirement issues for underrepresented groups such as women and persons with disabilities. To this day, she continues to commit her life to the study of retirement best practices. Like previous award recipients, she exemplifies the highest standards of our profession and earned this award.”

Anna founded her own firm, Anna Rappaport Consulting, following a 28-year career with Mercer Human Resource Consulting.  Anna served as President of the Society of Actuaries in 1997 in addition to her 15-year tenure as chair of the Society of Actuaries Committee on Post-Retirement Needs and Risks. The Committee has developed an internationally-respected program of research and public education focused on the post-retirement period and improving retirement for the individual.  She also is a member of the Board of WISER (the Women’s Institute for a Secure Retirement) and the Pension Research Council Advisory Board.  She previously served two terms on the National Academy of Social Insurance Board. Past awards include Employee Benefits Professional of the Decade from Workers in Employee Benefits, the Illinois State Treasurer’s Woman to Woman award for trailblazing in public policy, the Society of Actuaries John E. O’Connor Distinguished service award, a HERO award from WISER, and the 2013 Practitioner Thought Leadership Award from the Retirement Income Industry Association.  She writes and speaksabout retirement topics, and regularly contributes to The Conference Board’s Human Capital Exchange, Benefits Quarterly, Benefits, and Society of Actuaries’ Publications.   She writes a column “Perspectives from Anna” for the Society of Actuaries Pension Section News.  She served on the ERISA Advisory Council at the Department of Labor from 2010 to 2012.  She is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was established in 2015 and honors individuals for their contributions to the growth of the defined contribution industry.
