|Boise, ID – December 1, 2017. Attorney John C. Hughes joins Hawley Troxell effective December 1, 2017 and will be a member of the firm’s Employment and Tax Practice
Groups with focus on ERISA/Employee Benefits.
John focuses his practice on the complex area of ERISA/Employee Benefits. John represents and provides advice to private companies, plan committees, corporations,
tax-exempt entities, governmental entities, and individuals. He has also represented retirement plan industry professionals and organizations such as financial
institutions, third-party, administrators, accountants, and plan consultants. John counsels clients on a broad spectrum of plan related issues including legal
compliance, mergers and acquisitions, fiduciary responsibility, plan administration issues, plan corrections, plan design, litigation, and plan qualification.

John counsels clients nationwide with a wide variety of issues involving various kinds of employee benefit plans including 401(k), nonqualified deferred
compensation/409A, profit sharing, pension/defined benefit, 457, 403(b), employee stock ownership (“ESOP”), governmental, 125/cafeteria, and health and wealth plans.
John was the Co-editor-In-Chief of a well-established nationally circulated monthly newsletter entitled 401(k) Advisor from 2012-2017. He is former President and
Board Member of the Boise Chapter of the Western Pension & Benefits Council. John is also a member of Southern Idaho Compensation and Benefits Association, City
Club of Boise, and the Human Resources Association of Treasure Valley. John frequently writes and speaks on ERISArelated topics.
John is a member of the Idaho State Bar and the California State Bar, he received his. J.D. from California Western School of Law in San Diego and his B.A. in Communication from State University of New York in Buffalo.
