|Experienced employee benefits executive helps businesses get creative
CHICAGO, March 13, 2019 - David Mooney joins Lockton as executive vice president and employee benefits practice leader for Lockton Midwest with his primary office in Chicago. Mooney collaborates with employers to align their human capital and employee benefits programs with their overall business plan. Since the recession, the Chicago metro has experienced a 13.9 percent growth in employment with downtown alone adding more than 133,000 jobs.
Chicago employers are up against a shrinking labor pool. Illinois has had five consecutive years of population loss, losing 45,000 people in 2018 alone. Employers must be creative with benefits that bring and keep employees.
"With eight consecutive years of job growth in the US, Midwest businesses are competing with other regions to attract the best talent to the heartland, while also controlling their costs," said Peter Caine, chief operating officer of Lockton Midwest which has offices in Chicago, St. Louis, Milwaukee, Memphis, Nashville and Pittsburgh. "As a Chicago-native and employee benefits expert, David is the perfect choice to guide our practice as we create benefit programs that helps our clients attract and retain the right employees to drive their business."
Employers of all sizes and industries continue to face pressure to control the cost of their programs, while simultaneously providing plans that meet the needs of their employees and organization. Compounding these challenges is an increased need to deliver employee benefits to a multigenerational workforce. Workers also want more choices when it comes to healthcare which includes integrating technology.
"A mid-sized employer can have 10 to 20 different vendors covering various parts of its programs," said Mooney. "Pulling this together for a positive, consolidated member experience is a great opportunity to create differentiation, aggregate data and increase employee engagement."
Mooney spent 18 years in various consulting and leadership roles at Mercer. Prior to joining Lockton, he worked with Castlight Health, a San Francisco-based company specializing in healthcare digital navigation.
"One of the things that attracted me to Lockton is their operating model," Mooney said. "Employee benefits are changing rapidly. Lockton's decentralized model allows decisions to be made quickly and personalized to each client. This agility is imperative right now."
Mooney is part of the Midwest series which encompasses offices in Illinois, Missouri, Western Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Wisconsin. He is based out of Lockton's Chicago office which is located at 500 W. Monroe St., Suite 3400, Chicago, IL 60661 and can be reached by calling 312-669-6874.
