Answers are provided by Robert S. Kaufman

Friend of Divorced Spouse Inquires

(Posted May 25, 2013)

Question 1011: I have a friend who was a railroader's wife. They divorced. She remarried another person, and then divorced. She had turned 60 by the time of the second divorce. Is she eligible for railroad spouse retirement?

Answer: If your friend was married to the rail worker for at least ten years, and is now not married, she would be entitled to a Divorced Spouse Annuity from Railroad Retirement. She should contact the Railroad Retirement Board. Their toll-free number is: (877) 772-5772.
