Answers are provided by Robert S. Kaufman

Can a Rail Worker Retire in the Middle of a Month?

(Posted August 14, 2013)

Question 1045: Can I retire at 60 with 40 years, when I turn 60 on November 4 and get a partial payment for November ? Or do I have to work until the end of November?

Answer: You can retire as early as November 2 and begin receiving an annuity on November 3. Your payment for November will be made on December 1 and would be 28/30 of your full annuity rate.
