(Posted October 30, 2013)
Question 1071: I am the spouse of a railroad worker. I am 5 years older than my husband and plan to start collecting my Social Security in 2014 at 62. My husband has more than 30 years of service but will not be 60 and eligible to retire until 2017. When can I start drawing Railroad Retirement?
Answer: You should file for a Spouse Annuity three months before your husband's 60th birthday. Your first payment will be the first of the month following the month he is 60.
