Divorced Spouse Does Not Receive a Tier 2 Benefit
(Posted December 29, 2013)
Question 1089: Why does a former wife not receive Tier 2 benefits?
Answer: The Divorced Spouse Annuity was designed to give divorced rail spouses the exact same benefit as those who are covered by Social Security. Because Social Security does not pay a Tier 2-type benefit, neither does Railroad Retirement.
