Divorced Rail Worker Dies Before Retirement; What Happens to Tier 2 Contributions?

Question 1120: My father (a vested railroad employee) unfortunately passed away before retiring. He and my mother had divorced. My father had not remarried. My mother only qualifies for a Tier 1 benefit. What happens to his Tier 2 benefits? Do his adult children have any claim?
Answer: They are kept in the Railroad Retirement Trust Fund and used to pay Tier 2 benefits to other retired rail workers.
