Spouse Annuity For New Spouse Does Not Affect Rail Worker's Annuity

(Posted May 18, 2014)

Question 1131: I am currently living with a vested (13 years) rail worker who is receiving disability annuities from the RRB. We would like to get married. Would that affect his annuity payments? I heard that his payments would go down by half...? Is this correct, or did I hear wrong?

Answer: Your eligibility for a Spouse Annuity after marriage will not affect the rail worker's Disability Annuity.
