Divorced Spouse Wants to Switch from Railroad Retirement to Social Security
(Posted July 9, 2014)
Question 1153: A divorced spouse who is receiving RRB benefits would like to switch to Social Security benefits (which would be higher). Is this possible?
Answer: The Social Security Divorced Spouse benefit is not higher than the one paid by Railroad Retirement. They are exactly the same, because both programs use the same earnings record and the same formula.
