How to Choose Between Benefits
(Posted September 19, 2014)
Question 1177: How do I know whether to draw my Social Security benefit or my divorced husband's Railroad Retirement benefit? I would like to retire at age 60.
Answer: First of all, you will not be able to receive either benefit until 62. At that time, you should ask both agencies for an estimate of your benefits and then apply for the highest one.
