Marriage After Rail Worker Retires

Question 1216: My husband and I have been married for three years. We were married after he retired from the railroad and began receiving his pension. Will I be eligible for a Widow's Annuity if he dies before I do?
Answer: Unlike some private pension plans, both Railroad Retirement and Social Security pay benefits to widows if they have been married for at least nine months.
