When "Public Pension" Reduction Does Not Apply
(Posted August 1, 2001)
Question 122: I'm a rail worker and my wife is a school teacher. She is covered by the Maryland teachers pension plan and also by Social Security. Will the "public pension" offset(described in Q&A 73 of this column) apply to her retirement benefit?
Answer: No, she is granted an exception as long as her teaching position is covered under Social Security on the day she retires.
