Can I Switch Between Railroad Retirement and Social Security?
(Posted July 4, 2016)
Question 1248: I'm currently receiving a Spouse Annuity from Railroad Retirement. I'm waiting until 70 to file for Social Security. My Social Security Benefit will be higher than my Spouse Annuity. Can I switch benefits then?
There is no need to switch benefits from Railroad Retirement. Remember, only your Tier 1 will be reduced for Social Security. You can continue to receive your Tier 2.
