Borrowing from Railroad Retirement Trust Funds
(Posted April 11, 2003)
Question 241: Can an employee borrow from the Railroad Retirement Fund?
Answer: No borrowing by employees is permitted from either the Railroad Retirement or the Social Security trust funds.
Unlike the popular 401(k) funds in the private sector, neither Railroad Retirement nor Social Security maintains individual employee accounts. Therefore, there is no employee equity in either program from which to borrow.
