Estimate Of Widow's Benefit
(Posted November 9, 2006)
Question 611: I'm a disabled rail worker with 25 years of service and a current connection. I am 65 now and get $2,000.00 a month.
If I die, how much will my wife receive as a widow? She is 61 years old and has worked under Social Security for 40 years.
Answer: As a widow, she would receive approximately what you get now, minus any Social Security benefits that she receives. If she is less than her full retirement age, the widow's benefit also would be reduced by some amount depending on her age.
