Rail Widow Will Receive Government Pension
(Posted October 24, 2007)
Question 639: I receive a Widow's Benefit from Railroad Retirement. In four years I will retire from a government job and receive a pension. Will my Widow's benefit be reduced?
Answer: Yes, your Tier 1 will be reduced by 2/3 of your monthly pension. If your pension is high enough, your Tier 1 may be completely lost.
Your Tier 2, however, will not be affected by your pension. You will continue to receive the full amount.
