Question 656: When I retire at age 60, my wife will be 50 and our kids will
be ages 12, 11 and 9. Will my wife and kids also receive benefits when I reach retirement at age 60?
Answer: With three minor children in her care, your wife will be immediately eligible for a full spouse annuity when you retire. She will receive 50% of your Tier 1 and 45% of your Tier 2.
Since your youngest child may reach 18 before your wife reaches 60, there might be a short period sometime in 2018 when she will not be eligible for benefits. Her spouse benefit will resume the month she is 60.
