Minimum Duration Of Marriage Required for Benefits After Divorce

Question 683: Do you have to be married 10 years to someone in order to collect any benefits when he dies? We were divorced after 6-1/2 years of marriage.
Answer: Social Security and Railroad Retirement both require a 10 year duration of marriage to receive benefits as a divorced spouse or widow.
