Stop, Look & Listen: Railroad Retirement Benefits Q&A

Answers are provided by Robert S. Kaufman

The Advantages of Tier 2 To Rail Workers

(Posted April 9, 2009)

Question 697: Has Tier II been considered to be a benefit or advantage to rail workers?

Answer: Tier 2 definitely is a benefit for rail workers.

It's provided in lieu of a private industry pension, and is fully guaranteed by the U. S. Government.

In an age of depleted 401(k) accounts and industrial bankruptcies, it provides a valuable asset and safety net to rail workers and their families.
