Information About Railroad Medical or Life Insurance
(Posted June 2, 2009)
Question 709: My husband and I have some questions about medical coverage after he retires. Is there a railroard medical/dental/vision policy in place for retiring employees and their families? If there is, and the employee decides not to exercise the option, can the policy(ies) be activated later? If it/they can, is there a deadline for activation?
Answer: Medical benefits and life insurance questions are beyond the scope of this column.
The individual railroads and the railroad brotherhoods are the best sources of information on these subjects, because they are the entities who sponsor such programs.
