(Posted July 26, 2009)
Question 713: My husband is retired from the railroad after 20 years and receives a Disability Annuity. I always have worked as a nurse so I have my own Social Security.
When I retire, do I have to choose between Social Security or a spouse Railroad Retirement benefit, or can I receive both?
Answer: You can receive both benefits, but the Tier 1 of your spouse benefit will be reduced by the amount of your Social Security benefit.
