Stop, Look & Listen: Railroad Retirement Benefits Q&A

Answers are provided by Robert S. Kaufman

When Widow Remarries; Husband Had 30 Years of Service with the Railroad

(Posted July 18, 2010)

Question 762: What will a widow 75 years lose if she marries a retired military man? Her deceased husband retired with over 30 years service from the railroad.

Answer: You will lose your Tier 2 benefit as of the month that you remarry.

You should immediately report your remarriage to the Railroad Retirement Board so they can adjust your widow's annuity timely and avoid an overpayment.
