Spouse, Age 59, Wants To Know When She Can Begin Receiving Benefits
(Posted December 9, 2010)
Question 782: I am 59. My husband retired at 62 with 27 years of service. When will I be eligible for spouse benefits?
Answer: You will not be eligible for spouse benefits until you reach 62.
The payments will be reduced by 30% because you will be four years from your full retirement age of 66.
Your Tier 1 will also be reduced by any Social Security benefits that you receive.
