Question 811: Will my Railroad Retirement be reduced if I start drawing Social Security?
Answer: Yes, your Tier 1 will be reduced the the amount of any Social Security benefits that you receive.
Before filing an application with SSA, you should ask the Railroad Retirement Board if it is to your advantage to file at SSA. Often, the addition of Social Security does not increase the total monthly benefits you receive.
