Divorced Rail Worker Married Less Than Ten Years
(Posted June 16, 2012)
Question 880: I been working for railroad for 7 years. I was married for 9 years and 7 months before I got divorced. My ex-wife signed a waiver of any rights to my retirement benefits. My question is, will she be eligible for a Divorced Spouse Benefit? Also, do I need to let the RRB know that I am divorced?
Answer: Your former wife will not be eligible for a Divorced Spouse Benefit because your marriage lasted less than 10 years.
Under these circumstances, you do not need to notify the RRB of your divorce.
