Prefixes Used by the Railroad Retirement Board

Question 961: What does the "G" represent, when it is used at the beginning of a Railroad Retirement Claim Number?

Answer: According to the U.S. Treasury's web site, a "G" is not used as a prefix on Treasury checks.

Here are the Prefixes used by Railroad Retirement:

A - First application filed by rail worker

D - First application filed after death of rail worker

MA - Spouse of rail worker

P - Eligible parent of rail worker

W - Widow(er) of rail worker

WC -Young Widow(er) with eligible child of rail worker

X -Divorced Spouse or Widow
