Answers are provided by Robert S. Kaufman

Divorced Spouse Should Report Rail Worker's Death

(Posted February 9, 2013)

Question 968: My ex-husband passed away in November of last year. We had been divorced for a number of years. He remarried three years ago. He had begun to receive monthly pension payments. I'm not sure if his widow has informed the RRB of his death.

Answer: You should report your former husband's death to the Railroad Retirement Board as soon as possible to prevent a possible overpayment.

Their toll-free number is: (877) 772-5772.
