Excerpt: This is in response to your request on behalf of Northwest Airlines, Inc. Retirement Plan for Pilot Employees (the Plan) for an advisory opinion ... Specifically, you ask whether a domestic relations order that changes a prior assignment of benefits to an alternate payee to reduce the amount assigned to the alternate payee may be a 'qualified domestic relations order' (QDRO) within the meaning of section 206(d)(3) of ERISA.
