Is the IRS office open and processing 5500-EZ's

Hi

Is anyone aware if the IRS office in UT open and/or accepting/processing 5500-EZ's? I have a few clients who still file paper copies and I want to have them switch to electronic filings.

I do not want the forms sit and not processed for months (hopefully will not be the case but...)

I believe they are closed down.  This is one of the reasons ARA is fighting hard for the automatic extension for all plans, the service center that receives and processes the 5558 is shut down.  

If you really need to file, I would file it electronically on the SF with limited information as a one participant plan.

Haven't filed the "EZ" for years.  I do the limited info "SF".

What does "processing" mean?   Assuming the form is complete, why would you not mail it?

If you send it certified you have proof you mailed timely and that counts regardless of when the form is processed.  

Much simpler , core cost effective and immediate acceptance if SF filed instead of EZ.

Is this information about the processing center being shut down posted somewhere I can verify? Are you still sending in 5558s?
