Mayor Vetoes New York City Paid Sick Leave Bill But Council Override Expected (PDF)

June 12, 2013
"On May 8, 2013, the New York City Council passed legislation by a 45-3 vote that would require private sector employers to provide a minimum sick leave benefit to employees who work in New York City beginning in 2014 . New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has just vetoed the bill, but a veto override is expected.... Employers that already provide at least five days of paid leave or other paid time off (PTO) annually that may be used for these same reasons would not have to provide additional sick time as long as their existing leave policies satisfy all of the Act's requirements."
