Press Release

DOL Asks Federal Court to Force Lincolnshire, Illinois, Company to Supply Documents Sought in Employee Benefits Investigation

Issued by Employee Benefits Security Administration [EBSA], U.S. Department of Labor

Apr. 7, 2020

CHICAGO, IL, April 7, 2020 – The U.S. Department of Labor has filed a petition asking the U.S. District Court in the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, to enforce an administrative subpoena the department served to Alight Solutions LLC – based in Lincolnshire, Illinois. The subpoena seeks documents for an Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) investigation to determine compliance with the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).

Alight Solutions LLC has refused to provide all documents requested by the Department of Labor in the Nov. 5, 2019, subpoena. As a result, the department’s Chicago Regional Solicitor’s Office has filed this action to compel compliance with the subpoena.

“Complying with U.S. Department of Labor subpoenas is not optional,” said Employee Benefits Security Administration Regional Director Jeffrey Monhart, in Chicago, Illinois. “This case demonstrates the Department’s commitment to protecting employee benefits.”

EBSA’s mission is to assure the security of the retirement, health and other workplace related benefits of America's workers and their families. EBSA accomplishes this mission by developing effective regulations; assisting and educating workers, plan sponsors, fiduciaries and service providers; and vigorously enforcing the law. Compliance assistance is available.

The mission of the Department of Labor is to foster, promote and develop the welfare of the wage earners, job seekers and retirees of the United States; improve working conditions; advance opportunities for profitable employment; and assure work-related benefits and rights.
