- 1/10: The Word Can Be Mightier than the Match, a new report
released on the Web in full, from Watson Wyatt. "Our study found that targeted communications and specific advice about a
company's 401(k) plan will motivate an employee to save just as much as a high match
rate will."
- 1/9: Here come the regs! The U.S. House of Representatives Internet Law Library is making
the Code of Federal Regulations available in a free, searchable format. The
project is not yet completed, and Titles 26 and 29 (tax and labor) are reported to be out of date. But several titles are almost
up to date already. This is the first free Web version of the Code of Federal Regulations.

Act of 1996, and the Mental Health Parity Act of 1996.

The notice is scheduled to be published on January 13.
- 1/8: Attention, federal government employees: the United States Office of Personnel Management has a splendid OPM Retirement Programs Web Site,
describing benefits under the federal government's Civil Service Retirement System and the Federal Employees Retirement System. Check it out!
- 1/6: New York Surcharge on Health Care Services Could Affect Health Plans Nationwide, from
Thompson Publishing Group. The surcharge took effect on January 1.
