Conferees to the tax portion of the budget reconciliation bill, H.R. 2014, July 17 announced a tentative agreement to adopt several of the pension simplification provisions included in the Senate-approved version of the bill. The provisions, many of which were proposed by APPWP in our March 1997 long-term retirement report, "Preparing Americans for the Future: The Road to an Improved Employment-Based Retirement System," represent positive, if modest, steps towards reducing the regulatory and administrative burdens currently plaguing the private retirement system.
More coverage of the legislation is contained in the July 21 issue of Hewitt Associates' Washington Status Report.
Mr. Salisbury also made a presentation entitled Preparing for the Baby Boomers Retirement: The Role of Employment to a U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging forum (7/25/97).
