AndyH Posted May 15, 2001 Posted May 15, 2001 Has anyone else noticed that the instructions to the Schedule B are now more specific with regard to labeling of attachments (specs, age/service, etc.). Specific line references are required, and related instructions are in bold. I don't know if anyone ever worried about this before, but now we wonder if the B will be rejected for 2000 without the more stringent labeling. So, I guess each attachment needs the EIN and PN, which was probably a requirement before, plus a specific line reference. It would be very troublesome for us to do this. Anybody else concerned about possible Schedule B rejection?
Guest Jim Hunzelman Posted May 15, 2001 Posted May 15, 2001 Possible rejection of the Schedule B is of some concern to me. It's hard to tell if DOL is serious about the labeling for this year, but I have assumed that they are serious about this and I have dealt with the labeling requirement in two different ways; either I print the plan specs, actuarial assumptions, etc. to a text file and edit the header of each page to include the required information or I simply put the information of a self adhesive label, stick it on the page and then photocopy that page. The reason for the photocopying is so that the label won't jam the DOL scanners. I have a relatively small shop, so my solutions are workable for me. If I had several hundred Schedule B's to do, I'd sure modify my programs or come up with some other less labor intensive solution. Good luck. Schedule B sure is taking longer to prepare this year.
david rigby Posted May 1, 2002 Posted May 1, 2002 Now a year later, I wonder if there are additional thoughts on this topic. I'm a retirement actuary. Nothing about my comments is intended or should be construed as investment, tax, legal or accounting advice. Occasionally, but not all the time, it might be reasonable to interpret my comments as actuarial or consulting advice.
AndyH Posted May 1, 2002 Author Posted May 1, 2002 We started labeling ours per the instructions last year, which is a major time consuming hassle. But I have yet to hear of any rejections of, for example, takeover plans without the mandated labeling.
Guest Victoria Pelletiere Posted May 1, 2002 Posted May 1, 2002 We too have been following the instructions; however, when the deadline is upon us and we have a number of reports to complete, I'm not as careful about checking the EIN/PN and title of each Schedule B attachment. I've also noticed on takeovers that some others are not following the instructions completely. Thus far, we've had no complaints from the PWBA. Also, our software provider has not adhered to the specific labeling - one of main reasons some of our attachments are sent without them (we forget to edit the attachment manually).
