Guest nac Posted November 4, 1998 Posted November 4, 1998 Better check the provisions of both the retiree health plans and the LTD plan. Most LTD plans only cover to age 65, and I'm assuming the health insurance is continued only to that point. Does your company have retiree health benefits? If not, if you retire at 65 you're only eligible for Medicare. You can elect continuation of coverage through your company's medical plan at your own expense through COBRA, but that's only 18 or 29 months, depending on whether your disability is social security disability qualified. If you company does have retiree health benefits, you'd have to check with your pension plan admin to be sure you're eligible for medical coverage as a retiree.
Guest kp Posted November 16, 1998 Posted November 16, 1998 Even if your company does provide retiree benefits, you should check the company contract or the summary plan description to determine whether is its subject the discretion to terminate at a later time. It's called a reservation of rights clause that says something to the effect of "we reserve the right to amend or terminate at any time ..."
