Medusa Posted February 18, 2002 Posted February 18, 2002 Some pension plan participants have requested a copy of Form 5500. The Schedule SSA has information specific to certain individuals, including their Social Security numbers. Must we include the SSA as part of what we furnish to them, and if not, do we have any basis for that position other than common sense?
Mike Preston Posted February 19, 2002 Posted February 19, 2002 How about the form itself? In the upper right hand corner of, for example, the Form 5500 you can find the words: "This Form is Open to Public Inspection." Turning to the SSA, it says: "This Form is NOT Open to Public Inspection" Will that do? It certainly is enough for me.
Guest SPOT Posted February 19, 2002 Posted February 19, 2002 Mike Preston is absolutely right. You can not provide the SSA to participants as it has account balance information on it.
david rigby Posted February 19, 2002 Posted February 19, 2002 ... a bit more. Schedule B is open to public inspection except when attached to Form 5500-EZ. Schedule E is not open to public inspection. Schedule F is not open to public inspection. I'm a retirement actuary.
