Guest okanemochi Posted July 21, 2002 Posted July 21, 2002 Hello, I live and work in Japan, and would like to put earned money from here into a Roth IRA. However, are there U.S. income/tax requirements that I must meet? I make no money in the U.S., and the money I do make here is not taxed in the U.S. Does anone know the guidelines/regulations? Thank you for your time and help
JAMES PATRICK Posted July 22, 2002 Posted July 22, 2002 One of the requirements to contribute to a Roth or Traditional IRA is that you have taxable compensation. Since you state your income is not taxable in US then you are not eligible for an IRA. See Publication 590.
Guest okanemochi Posted July 22, 2002 Posted July 22, 2002 Mr. Patrick, Unfortunately, that seems to be the case. Thank you for your help
