Guest R. Daestrom Posted November 20, 2002 Posted November 20, 2002 Are MERP's required to file 5500's? I don't think so (can't find anything in the instructions that indicate that they do), but I haven't worked with them enough to know for sure. Thanks
jpod Posted November 20, 2002 Posted November 20, 2002 OK, I'll bite: What do you mean when you use the term "MERP"?
david rigby Posted November 20, 2002 Posted November 20, 2002 Medical expense reimbursement plan. See "Fringe Benefit Plan" on page 4 of the 5500 instructions. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i5500.pdf I'm a retirement actuary. Nothing about my comments is intended or should be construed as investment, tax, legal or accounting advice. Occasionally, but not all the time, it might be reasonable to interpret my comments as actuarial or consulting advice.
Ron Snyder Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 I believe that the correct reference (in the 5500 instructions) is to the filing requirements for welfare plans, not fringe benefit plans. In that case the need to file would depend on whether there were 100 employees in the plan, unless one of the exceptions applied. Instructions are on page 3, not 4.
