Now that traditional "security" employee benefits are viewed as basic compensation by today's employees, how important are Miscellaneous Benefits Programs to corporations and employees.

Is this an effective vehicle to attract and retain quality employees?

Our HR department is reviewing our recruiting and retention process. One of our main topics is Miscellaneous Benefits. Because basic security benefits are provided by most employers, the "other" perks are the ones that can make the difference to prospective employees.

We are looking at discounted daycare, dry cleaning pick-up and other "service" related perks that we can supply with a minimum of cost or administration, but that would be viewed as valuable to busy employees.

We have also had a "Fun" committee at work for over 2 months now, planning outside activities for employees and their families. We do not (generally) pay for the outings, but we have been able to negotiate for discounted admissions, etc for our employees. Our cost is the time paid for our committee members to serve on the committee. It has been very successful and each event is attended by more people.

We have been exploring methods to enhance our benefits program with ones for personal convenience. Things like purchase discounts, day care, shoping services, etc. Are there any established programs available for us to join. No sense in reinventing the wheel.

I'm sure Rick meant no subterfuge with his post, but it seems only sporting for posters to understand that his firm, browsable at www.corporatebenefitsplus.com,is in the business of providing--what else?--MBPs.

My $0.02 on Rick's question--as attracters & retainers, MBPs are not very valuable. As potential differentiators, they may be valuable.

Thanks for your input. We view our Personal Convenience Benefits as VERY worthwhile additions to existing benefits. For example one of our suppliers can educate anyone on using the Internet. Of special interest is how to correctly use HTML and/or UBB codeing to properly hyperlink URL's. You can browse our company and the Internet educator at www.corporatebenefitsplus.com
