Guest brapa Posted May 18, 2004 Posted May 18, 2004 I am filing from abroad and get an automatic extention until June 15th. Does this mean that my deadline for making a contribution to a Roth IRA for the 2003 tax year is also extended to June 15th?
Appleby Posted May 19, 2004 Posted May 19, 2004 It appears not. The deadline for making your IRA contribution is your tax-filing date, not including extensions. Guest brapa Posted May 19, 2004 Posted May 19, 2004 Thanks for that information. Too bad. Another question. My wife is Japanese and so doesn't file an American tax return. Does that mean, assuming I don't earn too much, that my contribution limit would still be $3,000? I was a little confused about the limits when it comes to married couples filing jointly or seperately and then had no idea how it would affect us. My income is earned abroad, but I am not going to exclude the full amount so that I can start a Roth IRA.
