I'm doing some work for a retirement plan designated as Plan Number 333. I seem to recall that, years and years ago, pension plans used numbers beginning with 333 and welfare benefit plan numbers began at 777. Does this sound familiar to anybody else out there?

As recently as 1998, the form 5500 instructions indicated that you should use 333 for multiple-employer plans where the participating employer was also the plan sponsor.

P.S. I guess that falls within the years and years ago if years=2 or 3 so your statement would mean 4 to six years ago. ;)

...but then again, What Do I Know?

The foregoing response is correct.

I believe that 666 is more appropriate for welfare benefit plans than 777. They are a real beast.

WDIK is correct, we have a plan numbered 333. Not sure about the H&W plans. Like the 666 idea as those plans are a pain.
