Guest tippa Posted January 4, 1999 Posted January 4, 1999 I'm gettng married soon. I understand that married couples can only contribute $3000.00 jointly. Would it be wise to each start one now and would this allow us to continue to contribute $2000.00 each after we get married or does anyone know how this works? Thanks...
BPickerCPA Posted January 5, 1999 Posted January 5, 1999 The way it works is that each of you can put $2K into a Roth (assuming there is at least $4K of earned income on the joint return). There is NO $3K limit for married taxpayers. Don't know where you heard this one, it's a new one on me. And totally false. Barry Picker, CPA/PFS, CFP New York, NY www.BPickerCPA.com
